a loss and a gain

This past month we had a very sad loss and and a very sweet gain.

We had to put Bailey down due to old age and poor health. She was our first baby, Tony and I had never lived together without her. She was my number one cuddle buddy, the ultimate thief of food and nothing but love to every person and animal she can across.

She had some issues off and on for the last year but nothing major then in a matter of weeks around Christmas things deteriorate quickly and we knew it was no longer fair to keep her alive and in pain with little quality of life just because we would miss her so much.

So we made the hard decision and it was incredibly sad. We went to Wendys and she got a bacon cheeseburger on the way and even the vet made a special peanut butter treat for her. There were a lot of tears and it was over. It was a sad few weeks after, I kept thinking I saw or heard her around the house or would factor her into things.

Then about a month later when we were out running errands we saw an adoption event and the kids wanted to go say hi to the animals. I was and am still 100% not ready for another dog but we spotted the sweetest looking kitten. We had talked off and on since last year when we had to put our cat down about getting another. We took her out and held her and it was a done deal. She had been found abandoned as a kitten and was staying with a foster.

So now we have a sweet 8 month old kitten in the house. She was very stand offish at first and spent the first few days under the furniture, only coming out overnight to eat. But even when she was nervous she has never once clawed, hissed or bit. Over the past week she had slowly and surely gotten more comfortable and is now a totally snuggle bug every evening and loves meowing and playing with the kids.

Penelope was noticeably off after Bailey died. She has never in her life lived alone so the kitten has also been good for her too. We have taken a hundred pictures and the kids talk about her all the time. She has been a prefect fit into our family and we are so happy to a have gained her.Welcome to the family Mia <3
