Tony turns 28!!

Tony had a birthday last week, he turned 28 :)

He is the hardest person to buy for, he doesn't want much and what he wants he just gets throughout the year so like our anniversary we typically do something rather than do gifts. When I asked him this year what he wanted, he knew exactly what he wanted to do - animal safari.

There is a great one here in Huntsville that me, Bean and the kids went to last summer when they came down to visit. Tony couldn't come because of work so he has wanted to go back ever since. Anyone who knows Tony knows his love for animals of all kinds.

So today we ventured out on our animal safari, we had perfect weather and a great time. Afterwards he got to choose lunch, he chose Chik-fil-a. Its the simple things in life :)

Welcomed by a peacock

Mini horse

Disgusting :)

A very friendly camel

Alpaca

Ram

A GIANT bison that Tony and I decided to drive on past

Tony couldn't even get his hand out of the window to feed this zebra, he stuck his head right into the car and into the feed bucket

We loved the baby

Snake in the reptile house

Look at those chompers!

Long horn

One of the cool things about this place is that after you do the drive through part you can get out and walk around the reptile house and a mini zoo like place with monkeys and peacocks.

This guy sits with his mouth open with a fake pink "lure" attached to the inside of his mouth and when a curious fish comes buy to grab the lure - chomp the turtle has his lunch.

Beautiful white and blue peacock

Its a hard life.....

One of Tony and I's all time favorite animals, the ring tailed lemur!

This guy was either mating or being territorial because he had gotten on top of that little house and was hollering away

Here is to another year of awesomeness for Tony, Happy Birthday!!!!!!

Daughter Poem

I have come across this poem a few times since I found out I am having a daughter. I love it. So I wanted to share it. Thank you Tina Fey for the true-ness and funniness of this poem.

First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie-the-Pooh holding the FSU logo stain her tender haunches.
May she be Beautiful but not Damaged, for it’s the Damage that draws the creepy soccer coach’s eye, not the the Beauty.
When the Crystal Meth is offered,
May she remember the parents who cut her grapes in half
And stick with Beer.

Guide her, protect her
When crossing the street, stepping onto boats, swimming in the ocean, swimming in pools, walking near pools, standing on the nearby subway platform, crossing 86th Street, stepping off of boats, using mall restrooms, getting on and off escalators, driving on country roads while arguing, leaning on large windows, walking in parking lots, riding Ferris wheels, roller-coasters, log flumes, or anything called “Hell Drop,” “Tower of Torture,” or “The Death Spiral Rock N’ Zero G Roll featuring Aerosmith,” and standing on any kind of balcony ever, anywhere, at any age.

Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance.
Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes
And not have to wear high heels.
What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I’m asking You because if I knew, I’d be doing it, Youdammit.

May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers.
Grant her a Rough Patch from twelve to seventeen.
Let her draw horses and be interested in Barbies for much too long,
For Childhood is short — a Tiger Flower blooming
Magenta for one day —
And Adulthood is long and Dry-Humping in Cars will wait.

O Lord, break the Internet forever,
That she may be spared the misspelled invective of her peers
And the online marketing campaign for Rape Hostel V: Girls Just Wanna Get Stabbed.

And when she one day turns on me and calls me a Bitch in front of Hollister,
Give me the strength, Lord, to yank her directly into a cab in front of her friends,
For I will not have that Shit. I will not have it.

And should she choose to be a Mother one day, be my eyes, Lord,
That I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 a.m., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back.
“My mother did this for me once,” she will realize as she cleans feces off her baby’s neck.
“My mother did this for me.” And the delayed gratitude will wash over her as it does each generation and she will make a Mental note to call me. And she will forget.
But I’ll know, because I peeped it with Your God eyes.
Amen.

DIY Chair Make Over

This past weekend I finally got around to redoing our office chair that we have upstairs at the computer desk. It was super easy and makes such a difference in the room! Here is a little tutorial on how I did it.

First you have to acquire a really ugly folding chair, like this one.....

This beauty became ours after our super comfy, leather, highback back office chair got shredded to ribbons by a certain someone......

Back to the makeover, so once you have your ugly folding chair, flip it over and unscrew the screws holding the "cushion" to the frame. Next spray paint the whole thing, I did 2 coats giving about 2 hours to fully dry in between coats. I had already chosen my cushion fabric so I got a grey paint to match.

Almost done! Just lay out your fabric, cut to size with a couple inches of extra around the edges. Use a staple gun and staple the fabric to cushion, I folded it under just like I was wrapping a present.

And reassemble!

See? How easy is that! It looks like a brand new chair and cost a whole $2 for the spray paint and $2 for the fabric that I got out of the extras bin at Joanns.

Also the latest belly picture is in :)

We are off to baby shower #2 this weekend in DC with Tony's side of the family, we are so happy to be seeing everyone twice in one month! Its such a treat for us. Next week is my Spring Break so hopefully I will get some more projects done to share and a super clean house!

Quotes

I love a good inspirational quote - I get it from my Mama :)

I was talking with some co workers today, some have older kids, some babies and others pregnant. We were talking about how to help your kids navigate tough social situations like being bullied. Not necessarily over-the-top Lifetime movie type bullying but your more common sneaky, under the radar mean girl type stuff. It was nice to hear the perspective of other parents and even though we have awhile until we have to deal with it, start forming some thoughts on the matter myself.

So when I got home and was browsing Pinterest for next weeks meals, I came across some quotes that seem to fit today's topic. Enjoy :)

Catching Up

So we have been very busy around here and I will (hopefully!!!) start writing more regularly but for now we need to catch up on everything that's been going on......

* belly pictures!

I just woke up, please dont judge me :)

* we went on a trip to Dubai and Goa, India. Goa was where the wedding was held and Dubai as just a fun add on.

Shopping in Dubai. This is what is called the "gold sook" basically just the gold district.
so much gold!
we got talked into seeing the "watch mans" goodies which apparently he kept on the roof. we declined the lovely rolex knock offs he was offering.

middle eastern fashion. you can see the coordinating head covering that goes with each outfit.

the atmosphere was lovely on our shopping day, perfect temperature, sunny and lots of pretty buildings to look at. it did catch me off guard every time they did the call to prayer which is a horn that plays across the city.

dried roses.basil.nuts

the best smelling street in the whole city :)

the owner of this shop was so nice and explained what everything was to us and let us sample whatever we wanted. my favorite: golden raisins that were the size of quarters.yummmm

so pretty. i ended up buying a set of different dried teas and dried lavender which i plan on making some sachets with.

there are lots of camel things in dubai. we looked into riding them but i couldnt because im pregnant. oh well, next time im in the middle easyt i suppose.

waterfall in the 10 story mall. this is on the other end from the indoor ski resort.

more waterfall.
Goa, India

so so pretty. the weather was perfect. when wedding things were on a break we spent all of our time relaxing in chairs by the pool.

flower display in a tub of water.

this one was my favorite.

on our walk around town.

i liked the artwork on this building.

scaffolding made from bamboo. it fascinated me.

The trip was great and so different from other places we have visited. My favorite parts, as usual, was eating our way around both places. Highlights include: Portuguese coconut cornbread (Goa has a very heavy Portuguese influence), gelato, hummus and flat bread in Dubai and 2 paneer (Indian cheese) dishes I had at the wedding.

* lastly, a couple of baby related things. We got started painting the nursery this weekend, picked up some precious clothes at a great consignment shop and have been loving feeling her move and kick all the time! Here is one of my favorite outfits we picked up.

we got this cute little romper for $1!
Have a great week everyone!
